Before your kit arrives
If you have ordered a sauna, or are about to, a few things are worth settling before the delivery date.
Where it goes, and how it gets there. A kit arrives as heavy, flat panels and boxes. On a foothill lot with a steep driveway or garden steps, the route from the street to the spot decides how long assembly takes. We walk that route on the site visit.
What it stands on. Indoors, a sauna needs a level floor that can take water. Outdoors, it needs a level, drained base, which on a sloping Los Gatos lot can mean a cut pad, piers or a platform. The outdoor site prep guide covers the options.
The circuit. Most kits with an electric heater need a dedicated 240V circuit, sized to that heater. The panel has to have room for it, and the run has to reach the sauna. Building for the Los Gatos climate
Los Gatos sits inland at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains, with warmer, drier summers than the coast and cool, wet winters. For an outdoor sauna that means building for sun and for the swing between seasons: a UV-stable finish on the exterior, wood that is sealed to move without checking, and a roof that sheds winter rain. Sauna permits in Los Gatos
A sauna's new 240V circuit needs an electrical permit, and whether the structure needs a building permit depends on its size, whether it is attached and where it sits on the lot. In Los Gatos, permits come through the town's Community Development Department, whose Building Division reviews construction plans, issues permits and conducts inspections; the town offers Online Permit Services for applications.

Is the electrical included in the assembly price?
No, it is quoted separately, because it depends on your panel and on how far the circuit has to run. You get both in writing before work starts, from the same crew.

Usually, yes. A cut pad, piers or a built platform can give a sauna a level, drained base on a slope; we decide which after seeing the ground.
Can you inspect a sauna that came with the house?
Yes. We did a full inspection of an existing sauna in neighboring Saratoga in June 2026. Service and repair starts from $380.
Does the summer heat matter for an outdoor sauna?
It matters for the finish more than the sauna. Strong inland sun is hard on exterior wood, so we use a UV-stable finish and recommend checking it each year.
