Who repairs and builds saunas in Atherton?

YOURSAUNAS, a licensed California general contractor (CSLB #1150020) based in Mill Valley. In Atherton our work so far has been on an existing sauna: in June 2026 we repaired its LED lighting by hand and sanded and refinished its exterior. We also design and build new custom saunas here, indoor and outdoor, and assemble kits.

A sauna that has been part of a house for years rarely needs replacing. More often one thing has gone: the lights have failed, the control panel is acting up, the heater will not come to temperature, or the outside of the cabin has weathered. Fixing that one thing properly, and leaving the rest alone, is usually the better job and the smaller bill.

What we have done in Atherton

LED lighting repair and exterior refinishing, June 2026

We repaired the sauna's LED lighting by resoldering it by hand, rather than replacing it, then sanded and refinished the sauna's exterior so the wood was protected again.

That job is typical of what an established sauna needs. Sauna lighting lives in heat and moisture that ordinary fixtures are not made for, and the joints are where it gives out. The exterior is the part that takes the weather and the sun, and a sanding and a fresh finish brings it back long before the wood is lost.

New saunas on an Atherton property

When the sauna is new, the property shapes the plan. Atherton lots are large and leafy, and an outdoor sauna is often placed well away from the main house: by a pool, at the end of a garden path, near a guest house. That gives privacy and room to build a proper backyard wellness zone with a cold plunge and a shower beside the sauna.

Distance has a cost, though, and it is mostly electrical. A sauna heater needs a dedicated 240V circuit, and the farther the sauna sits from the panel, the longer and heavier that run becomes. Mature trees matter too: a trench has to find its way around roots, and the cabin is best placed where falling leaves and shade will not keep the roof damp. Our site prep guide and 240V guide cover both.

Indoors, the larger Atherton homes often have the room for a generous sauna in a pool house, a lower level or a primary bath suite. For sizing by how many people will use it, see what size sauna you need.

Permits in Atherton

A new 240V circuit needs an electrical permit, and whether a new structure needs a building permit depends on its size, whether it is attached and where it sits on the lot. Atherton's Building Department enforces Title 24, issues permits for building and altering structures, and takes applications through its eTRAKiT web portal.

We confirm what your project needs with the town before work starts and file the permits our work requires. Repair work on an existing sauna, like replacing a light or refinishing wood, usually involves no new circuit, but we check rather than assume. The Bay Area permit guide has more.

Atherton sauna FAQ

Atherton questions, straight answers.

Can you repair the lighting in an existing sauna?

Yes. In Atherton in June 2026 we repaired a sauna's LED lighting by resoldering it by hand instead of replacing it. Where a light cannot be saved, the replacement has to be one rated for sauna heat.

Our sauna’s exterior looks weathered. Does it need replacing?

Usually not. Sanding and refinishing, as we did on an Atherton sauna in June 2026, restores the protection while the wood underneath is still sound; we tell you on site if it has gone past that.

Do you work on saunas you did not build?

Yes, of any brand and any age. Service and repair starts from $380 for the diagnostic visit and the first hour and a half on site.

Can our pool house become a sauna?

Often, yes. A pool house usually has the space and sometimes power nearby; we check the panel, the ventilation and the wall construction first. See converting a room into a sauna.

Do you build new saunas in Atherton, or only repair them?

Both. Our Atherton work so far has been a repair and refinish, and we design and build new custom indoor and outdoor saunas here too, from $12,900 indoors and $18,900 outdoors.
