A sauna is heat, water and electricity sitting outdoors for decades. Where it's built changes how it has to be built. Here's what we account for on Peninsula and Bay Area properties:
Hillside lots & drainage
Los Altos Hills, Woodside and Portola Valley parcels slope. We engineer the foundation, anchoring and water runoff so the build sits level and dry for the long haul.
Tight estate setbacks
Even big Atherton and Hillsborough lots have strict side- and rear-yard setbacks. We site the sauna where it's legal, private and usable — not just where it fits.
HOA & architectural review
Many estate-belt and gated communities require design approval before you break ground. We prepare the package and work to the board's rules so you're not redoing it twice.
Coastal fog & salt air
From the coastside to Marin, moisture and salt punish a sauna. We spec moisture-resistant cedar or spruce, marine-grade hardware and weather-sealed finishes built to last.
Permits, jurisdiction by jurisdiction
Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton and the county each have their own building department and rules. We pull the permits in your city and meet their inspectors.
