Sauna and cold plunge in Lafayette
In Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga we plan the hot and the cold together: a sauna, a cold plunge, a shower and the ground they stand on, built as one backyard project by one licensed team.
Who installs a sauna and cold plunge in Lafayette?
YOURSAUNAS does. In July 2026 we delivered and installed a round cold plunge tub in Lafayette, and we design, build and wire the saunas that usually sit beside one. We are a licensed California general contractor (CSLB #1150020, Class B) based in Mill Valley, and our own crew handles the carpentry, the ventilation and the electrical.
The reason to think about the plunge and the sauna together is that they compete for the same things: a level spot, a path between them, power, and somewhere for water to go. Put the plunge in first without a plan and the sauna ends up wherever is left. Plan both and the walk from heat to cold is a few steps on a dry surface, which is what you actually want after a round at full temperature.
That does not mean you have to build everything at once. You can start with one piece; we just lay the site out so the second piece has a place to go.

Planning a wellness zone on a Lamorinda lot
Lafayette sits on the warm side of the hills, and that changes the brief. Summers are hot and dry, winters are cool, and many lots slope. A few things that come up when we walk a Lamorinda yard:
- The slope. A sauna and a plunge both need a level, load-bearing base. On a hillside that can mean footings or a stepped pad, and the path between the two needs the same attention. The site prep guide explains the options.
- The sun. Strong summer sun is harder on exterior wood than fog is, so finishes and orientation matter. A plunge in full afternoon sun is also working against itself.
- The power. A sauna heater needs its own 240V circuit, and if the zone sits away from the house the circuit has to be trenched out to it. A plunge with a chiller may need power of its own. We plan the electrical for the whole zone in one pass rather than one trench per purchase.
- The water. A plunge has to be filled, drained and kept clean, and a shower adds a supply and a drain. Where that water goes is part of the design, not an afterthought.
Our indoor vs outdoor guide helps if you are still deciding whether the sauna goes in the yard at all.
Permits for a sauna or plunge in Lafayette
A new 240V circuit needs an electrical permit. Whether the sauna structure needs a building permit depends on its size and placement, and a plunge that only plugs into an existing outlet is a different question from one that needs a new circuit. We confirm the exact path with the Lafayette building department before work starts, file the permits ourselves and carry the inspections. Background in the Bay Area permit guide.

Lafayette sauna FAQ
Lafayette questions, straight answers.
Can you install just a cold plunge, without a sauna?
Yes. The Lafayette job in July 2026 was exactly that: a round cold plunge tub delivered and installed. If a sauna may follow later, we place the plunge with that in mind.
I already have a cold plunge. Can you add a sauna beside it?
Yes. We look at where the plunge sits, where power can reach, and how the ground drains, then propose a sauna that fits the space left, either a custom cabin or an assembled kit.
What does a full backyard wellness zone cost in Lafayette?
Wellness zones start from $39,900. That is a starting figure, not a quote: the slope, the base, the electrical run and what goes into the zone set the real number after a site visit.
Is a hot Lafayette summer a problem for an outdoor sauna?
Not for using it, but for the outside of the building. Sun and dry heat work on exterior wood, so we choose finishes and placement for it. Our maintenance guide covers the upkeep.
Do you work in Orinda and Moraga too?
Yes. We have invoiced sauna work in Orinda and quoted projects in Moraga.
