Who installs saunas in Oakland?
YOURSAUNAS installs saunas in Oakland, and has done so twice in 2026: an indoor Finnleo kit and an outdoor Auroom cabin. We are a licensed California general contractor (CSLB #1150020, Class B) based in Mill Valley, and our own crew does the assembly, the carpentry, the ventilation and the 240V circuit.
That last part matters more than people expect. A sauna kit arrives as a pallet of panels, a heater and a control unit, and the box says nothing about your electrical panel, your floor or where the vent should go. Assembly is usually the easy half. The circuit behind it, run to code and inspected, is the half that decides whether the sauna is safe to use, and we do both.

Indoor or outdoor: how Oakland houses decide it
Oakland has a lot of older housing, and the question is often less about taste than about what the house will carry. Some things we check on an Oakland site visit:
- The panel. An older house may have little spare capacity for a sauna heater's dedicated 240V circuit. We look at it first, because it shapes the whole plan. Our 240V guide explains what a sauna circuit needs.
- The basement or garage. If the house has one, a concrete floor with nearby power is often the simplest home for an indoor kit. See converting a room to a sauna.
- The yard. In the flats a yard is usually level but small, so footprint and distance to the fence matter. In the hills the yard may be generous but sloped, and the base becomes a real part of the job. The site prep guide covers both.

Sauna permits in Oakland
A new 240V circuit needs an electrical permit in Oakland, as across the Bay Area; whether the structure needs a building permit depends on its size and placement.
In Oakland, the Bureau of Building, within the Planning and Building Department, oversees the regulatory process for construction in the city, and its plan check covers structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing projects. Inspections are scheduled by the permit holder before work is covered up.
The city runs a One-Stop Permit Center with in-person and online services.

I bought a sauna kit online. Will you assemble it in Oakland?
Yes, any brand. Both of our Oakland installs in 2026 were kits, one Finnleo and one Auroom. Assembly starts from $1,490, and the electrical is quoted separately once we have seen your panel.
Will my older Oakland house handle a sauna heater?
Often, but we check before you buy. The heater needs its own 240V circuit, and an older panel may need room made for it. We look at that on the site visit, and the wiring is done by our own crew.
Do you work in the Oakland hills?
Yes. Hill lots tend to have more space and more slope, so the conversation shifts to the base: footings or a stepped pad instead of a simple level pad.
Does the damp near the bay rule out an outdoor sauna?
No. It means building for it: a base that drains, wood treated and sealed, and ventilation that dries the room after each session. The Auroom cabin we put in an Oakland backyard had its interior treated as part of the install.
Do I need a permit for a sauna in Oakland?
For the new 240V circuit, yes. Whether the structure needs a building permit depends on size and placement. We handle the filing and inspections with the city's Bureau of Building as part of the job.
