Who builds custom saunas in Sonoma and Napa?
YOURSAUNAS does, and we already have work on the ground here: a custom sauna built in Sonoma, a custom indoor sauna underway in Healdsburg, and a service call in Napa. We are a licensed California general contractor (CSLB license #1150020, Class B) based in Mill Valley, a drive up the 101 from wine country.
The same founder-led crew does the whole build: the framing, the 240V circuit and any 120V wiring, the ventilation, the heater and the finish. That matters on a build like the framed room in Sonoma, where the structure and both kinds of wiring had to agree with each other: a project with fewer handoffs between trades is a project with fewer places to go wrong.

Building a sauna for a wine country property
Wine country means hot, dry summers, cool nights and winter rain. An outdoor sauna here faces strong sun more than fog, so the exterior finish has to stand up to UV and the dry-to-wet seasonal swing.
Many properties here have more room than a typical inner Bay Area lot, and that opens up the full backyard project: the sauna, a cold plunge, an outdoor shower and the decking that ties them together, designed as one plan. On a larger lot the practical question is distance: how far the 240V circuit runs from the panel, and whether the panel has capacity for it.
Much of this region also lives with wildfire risk, and for an outdoor wood structure near a house, fire-safety rules can shape materials and placement.
Sauna permits in Sonoma and Napa
The permit goes to whoever has jurisdiction over your address: a city's own building department inside city limits, or the county for unincorporated areas, which include much of the countryside in both counties. The rule that does not change is that a new 240V circuit needs an electrical permit. Whether the sauna structure needs a building permit depends on its size, whether it is attached and where it sits on the lot. We confirm the specifics with the right office, file the permits, and meet the inspector. See our Bay Area permit guide.

North Bay sauna FAQ
Wine country questions, straight answers.
Do you really come up to Sonoma and Napa?
Yes. We have built a custom sauna in Sonoma, have an indoor sauna underway in Healdsburg, and have done a service call in Napa. We are based in Mill Valley, so the North Bay is a regular drive for us.
Is the hot, dry summer hard on an outdoor sauna?
Strong sun and the dry-to-wet seasonal swing are the main stresses, so we choose an exterior finish for UV. Placing the cabin for afternoon shade helps the wood and the people using it.
My property is large and the house panel is far from where I want the sauna. Is that a problem?
It changes the cost, not the possibility. A longer run for the 240V circuit means more wire and more trenching or routing, and the panel needs capacity for the heater. We measure both on the first visit and price them in the written quote. Our 240V guide explains what goes into it.
Can you build a sauna, cold plunge and shower as one project?
Yes. That is our backyard wellness zone, from $39,900, designed and built as one plan by one crew.
I am outside city limits. Who issues my permit?
Usually the county rather than a city. We confirm which office has jurisdiction over your address and file with them.
